Affordable Fun in the Hamptons: Is it Possible? So far this summer, I thought I had seen it all: July brought us enough rain to make most of us consider moving to Seattle to see some sun; Drink prices continue to escalate to all-time highs ($10 for a vodka and 7-Up at Jet East); And even gas prices hanging around the $2.00 per gallon mark. All of these things can truly make the trek out to eastern Long Island hardly seem worth it. Finally, however, last weekend I happened across a Hamptons spot that helps one to forget this summer’s bad points. This spot, is a relatively new nightclub called Brazil. In my opinion, Brazil, located just walking distance from CPI in Hampton Bays, provides the most “bang-for-the-buck” in all of the Hamptons. I visited Brazil on a Saturday night and was immediately surprised by the very low cover charge at the door. The cover was only $10 and even less when on a guest list. Drink prices were also amazingly low. The average drink price was less than $5.00, which is almost half that of other Hamptons establishments. Despite the low prices one finds at Brazil, the club still has an upscale atmosphere. Décor and layout of the club offers plenty of dancing area as well as plenty of space for conversing and relaxing. Brazil features both indoor and outdoor space with bars and seating areas located conveniently throughout. The dress code in Brazil seems to be loose, but nearly all of the clientele is dressed upscale and trendy. The crowd was very friendly and I found most people eager to make acquaintance. The indoor area was very well appointed with a small, but roomy VIP area, with tables that could be reserved in advance. Outdoors, one will find a bar and plenty of seating to enjoy some fresh air. There is also a small pizzeria located outside that actually had very good pizza at reasonable prices. The music was one of the things that I felt set Brazil apart from most of the other Hamptons nightclubs. Saturday night resident, Motomo, provided the music for the whole night. Motomo is one half of the Mindtrap remixing team famous for its mixes of Kim English’s “Missing You” and several others (the other half being DJ Jason Ojeda). Motomo worked the crowd into a frenzy with a wide variety of music from all genres. He combines DJ Ted the Dillinger’s style of Hip-Hop, turntable wizardry with a Vocal House presence similar to partner, Jason Ojeda to offer a unique musical experience to Brazil’s crowd. Brazil’s convenient location makes it a short drive from just about any point in the Hamptons. That fact, along with all of its many other great features, should make Brazil high on your list of places to check out during the rest of the summer. Those of you who hate the overpriced, arrogance of the Hamptons will especially find Brazil to be a refreshing change. With any luck, we can take Brazil as a good sign that despite all the aggravations this summer has given us so far, there are still some good things to look forward to before the summer comes to an end. BRAZIL, 17 CANAL ROAD, HAMPTON BAYS.
