Cream

Looking to break the monotony of the West Side posh nightlife scene? Cream is just about the only one of its kind in this neighborhood of swank lounges. Prepare yourself for a "downtown" type of nightclub filled with a trendy, twenty-something crowd.

Cream uses its reputation for providing various atmospheres to attract a wide variety of clientele. These atmospheres come in the form of several distinctly themed rooms. During your entrance into the main room you will encounter a dim corner bar facing a shadowy mid-sized dance floor, where a DJ spins house and techno. This room features a slightly Victorian décor along with a live drummer complementing the DJ. Through exploration you will discover several other rooms. These rooms include the snow covered Winter Wonderland room, which adjoins the main room and provides ample seating space. The Tribal Room features animal print décor throughout (a la Cheetah). The VIP Red Room, with its electric tables, features a second DJ spinning mild hip-hop and R&B. You also get to check out the real palm trees in the jungle room.

Keep in mind this is not your typical Upper West Side chic nightspot. The crowd was unusually friendly. Also, be prepared to check your coat in a murky, unattractive, lower level basement. If you are craving a nightclub where one can choose the environment in which to party, you may want to consider Cream. CREAM, 46 COLUMBUS AVENUE, NEW YORK, NY.
