Delia's in Brooklyn Upon hearing all the gossip about the revitalized Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, I decided to head across the bridge and see what all the talk was about. I was pleased to see that, for the most part, Brooklyn had changed a bit. The replacement of discount stores with boutiques, barbershops with salons, and diners with upscale restaurants was an immediate eye catcher. However, the main changes have come in the way of the nightlife scene. I decided to stop into one of these relatively new locations and let you all know if it’s worth the trip. Delia’s, pretty much fits the bill as your stereotypical Manhattan lounge, transplanted in Brooklyn. Plush furniture, dim lighting, and slightly overpriced drinks will make the Manhattanites feel right at home; Oh! Except that is, for the big “you talkin’ to me” vibe, which the whole place instills. As they say, you can take the old Bay Ridge away from the Goumbas, but you can’t take the old Goumbas away from Bay Ridge. I found the place to be quite comfortable, though, I feel that may be because I was in the company of the many Delia’s regulars. I don’t think an out-of-towner would feel very at home. Tables and seating is almost reserved exclusively for those that are fixtures in the place, and even standing room is limited. Back to the décor, I found it to be quite pleasing to the eye. A great job was done in designing the place around a tight space. The only things that struck me as odd were the neon pink lava lamps, although, they do provide a good conversation piece. Waitress service allows all to relax in their hard to come by seats while ordering cocktails and appetizers; Delia’s serves up a nice selection of very tasty dishes. Drink prices are a bit high, especially for Brooklyn, but these prices seem to be on their way to becoming a standard, even outside of Manhattan. Valet parking is available along with the treat of little, or better yet, often no cover charge. Overall, I was quite pleased with what Delia’s brings to a fresh, Brooklyn nightlife scene. Main problem, is that anyone not from the neighborhood, unless with their own entourage, will feel very out of place. Delia’s does a great job though, of treating the locals and regulars well. For those coming from out-of-town, Delia’s is worth the try; and who knows, you might end up becoming a regular yourself. DELIA'S, 9222-3RD AVENUE, BROOKLYN, NY.
