Eden's crisp décor, accented in deep aqua, bright turquoise and rich royal does its best to create the air of a neo-metropolitan garden. Large white tiles fashion the vast floor space, and a raw stone finish tops the bar. The lighting is a bit on the gray side, generating the feeling that perhaps it is an over-cast day in the garden. The buoyant, eclectic lounge beats, however, fill the air yielding a sentiment quite the contrary.

Eden's auto-comp, hassle-free entrance motivates a come-and-go-as-you-please attitude, circulating more patrons in a night than most lounges do in a weekend. The bar does tend to become quite busy at times, however, making one think again before slapping down one more 10 for another mediocre drink.

Unlike most nightspots new on the New York scene, the clientele is less about the shi-shi and fashionably fabulous, and more about the young and yuppiesque. Housing a crowd that seems a bit "bourgeois" at times, the lounge tends to feel less like a Manhattan nightclub and more like an NYU sorority social. Eden's unpretentious air does, however, make for a notable singles situation.

A serene waterfall trickles down the mosaic-tiled wall at the back of an elongated bar. Silk chiffon curtains in cool hues engulf large oversized booths and dining tables on which delectable pan-Asian cuisine can be enjoyed until a 2am kitchen-close. Though once referred to as Lava lounge, the revamped Eden, though hot, is far from the urban hip-hop-haven of years past.

An unaffected clientele, no hassle/no hand over door policy, and a cool serene atmosphere, make Eden an ideal space to chat and chill. The beats are ambient, and the vibe is just right. Perhaps an evening in the garden is the city-dwellers ultimate escape. EDEN - 28 WEST 20TH ST. NEW YORK, NY
