"I Feel Like I'm In... Pazzo"

Brooklyn nightlife, as I have stated in the past, is a continually evolving beast. Each season for the past three years, new and more elaborate places have sprung up in the Bay Ridge area. Restaurants have gotten more diverse and flavorful. Bars have gotten larger and wilder. And the lounges, oh the lounges, they have been springing up everywhere and each one desperately attempts to set itself ahead of its predecessors. Most fail, but some manage to take on a life all their own, developing a sure-fire following almost every night of the week. Pazzo is one of these spots that have taken Brooklyn by storm.

Pazzo owners have followed the formula of their past successful establishments to create a unique lounge that stands out above its competition. This formula has been to take an existing space, bring in top designers and give them free reign to work their magic. Each time they have left behind more than just a new lounge; they have left an award-winning masterpiece. Pazzo certainly has a one-of-a-kind style in more ways than its décor. Pazzo is the millennium version of the Bay Ridge nightlife experience. On each visit I have paid to Pazzo, each person in my party will say roughly the same thing… "I feel like I'm in… (Insert the name of your favorite Italian-American movie here)." The crowd, however, is as equally mixed as any other in Pazzo's neighborhood. Pazzo has a character all its own and one that carries on the tradition of many Bay Ridge nightclubs and lounges before it. The tradition of being the place that simply is "Bay Ridge, Brooklyn."

The ambience of the space that makes up Pazzo is perfectly suited for everyone. As Pazzo is open daily as a restaurant until the 11 o'clock hour, the décor provides a soothing, candlelit atmosphere for those looking for a relaxing dinner. The main bar is separated from the dinner area by just enough space as to allow early comers to Pazzo the Lounge to keep from disturbing the customers of Pazzo the Restaurant. Several nooks of comfortable couches and lounge space provide quiet getaways for those looking not to be so recognized. As the evening turns more and more into night, the music begins to gain volume as the staff begins the removal of tables to accommodate Pazzo's always-packed dance floor. The music and DJ's are carefully chosen to provide a mix of every era and style that Pazzo's customers might expect to hear. Literally, everyone's favorite songs are sure to be played over the course of the evening. Music ranges from disco classics to today's best dance music and everything in between. The sound and lighting also perfectly accommodates the size of the establishment.

Pazzo tends to have an older crowd with the average age being somewhere between 25 and 30. The age group and music style varies by the night of the week from Thursday to Saturday. Thursday nights tend to have an older crowd and Friday and Saturday nights are more mixed. Cover is often free for ladies and very reasonable for gentlemen (usually no more than ten dollars). Dress code is very accommodating; allowing jeans if they are worn well and overall appearance is neat. The style of the crowd ranges from jeans and sweaters to dresses and suits, with most people choosing to go the dressier route. The crowd, being more mature than other Bay Ridge spots, tends to be a lot friendlier and less pretentious, making for a much more relaxed and enjoyable time. Overall, in the rapidly expanding world of Bay Ridge nightlife, Pazzo tends to shine as one of the stylish and friendliest of the bunch. It fills the void left by the absence of some of Brooklyn's long-gone nightlife venues that catered to a mixed crowd while giving people a lot in return for their patronage. Being not only one of the larger and overall better spots in town, but also one of the lesser expensive ones as well, Pazzo is sure to claim its ground and hold strong in the constantly changing landscape of Bay Ridge.
