Putting "Pressure" on the NYC Nightlife Scene. In the dog-eat-dog world of New York City nightlife, new establishments are facing the ever-increasing challenge of differentiating themselves from their competition. Although this task is usually much easier said than done, several of the city's more popular bars, clubs, and lounges have managed to successfully accomplish this task. Nowadays, one can find everything from S&M, to cross-dressing, to video games serving as the main attractions that lure people seeking a change from the typical New York scenery. It comes as not much of a surprise that the owners of one of the city's most well recognized theme establishments has managed to create another such venue, Pressure NYC.
Utilizing the rooftop space on top of their already famous Bowlmor Lanes on University Place, the creators of Pressure NYC have added a new level (literally) to the scene of New York Nightlife. Contained in a magnificent bubble-like dome usually reserved for tennis courts and ice skating rinks, Pressure NYC makes the ordinary into something spectacular. The décor found as one ascends the stairs into Pressure, is more unique and stylish than one would ever expect in what from the outside appears as nothing more than a white bubble. Most lounges would gawk in envy at how wonderful every inch of Bowlmor's rooftop space has been utilized to its fullest potential. Aside from atmosphere and décor, what sets Pressure apart from its countless NYC neighbors is that rather than a simple lounge, it is a billiard hall as well. "Billiard Hall" may not do justice, as Pressure is actually a superb get-together space. Its large size makes all feel accommodated without being overcrowded. Plush seating is ample as are high-tech monitors broadcasting all of your favorite events. Music is also provided, though on my visits, it was kept at a minimum to allow for easy conversing. To my surprise, the staff was even friendlier than the crowd. Even security remembered our faces and always greeted us with a smile (truly a rarity in this town). The billiard tables, for those more interested in Pressure's main attraction, are all of the highest quality and one can even reserve private billiard lounges for a group (or maybe the occasional high-stakes game). On my visits I also had the opportunity to sample some of Pressure's available food selections, which can be catered to events of all sizes. The food I tried was Pan-Asian in origin and was excellent in both taste and originality. Along with being courteous, Pressure NYC's bartenders and cocktail waitresses were always available to take your order for the pricey, yet generously sized drinks. Pressure NYC is fully capable and ready to accommodate any size party you may wish to bring its way (a reputation its parent space, Bowlmor Lanes, has maintained for many years). Most corporations will find the audio-visual displays located throughout the venue to easily accommodate any type of presentation one can provide. A large corporate affair was being catered to on both nights of my previous visits and all seemed to revel in all that Pressure had to offer. I look forward to visiting Pressure again on a night that is slightly less busy so that I could perhaps enjoy a game or two of pool and unwind a little more. All in all, Pressure NYC is a remarkable venue that should be visited if for no other reason, than to observe that in a city where space is the hottest commodity, a little creativity and a lot of courtesy can go a very long way.
