Interview with DJ Denny Tsettos

Hello and how are you doing today?

I'm fine Thanks!!!

Where did you grow up?

Born in Athens, Greece. Then moved to NJ where I grew up. (Ocean Twp.)

When in your life did you realize that DJing was the career that you wished to pursue?

I started DJ at the age of 16. I did it for fun while I was in school and in college, but never thought I would make a career out of it until recently.

Who has been the most influential person in your life thus far?

In general my parents! As far a DJing Junior Vasquez.

How has your style evolved since you first embarked on your career as a DJ?

My style has evolved with the different sounds of dance music but for the most part it always has remained very drummy and tribal. Also I've always been a sucker for Anthemy Vocals.

What has been your favorite venue/crowd to DJ for?

Temptations in Seaside Hts. I have played in many cities across the country as well as in Japan but nothing can compare to the vibe and energy of Tempts.

Do you ever interact with your crowd and take suggestions in style or music, or do you rely more on your ability to move the crowd in the direction you choose?

I feel one of my strong points as a DJ is my ability to read my crowd and program accordingly.

Have you ever felt that a crowd just didn't get what you were trying to accomplish with your set?

Absolutely, There have been nights that the crowd did not get it for some reason. Then the following week the same crowd would go nuts, to basically the same stuff. Peoples mood's have a lot to do with vibe of a night.

What do you consider to be the most influential records in both your own style and the scene in general?

The most influential records in my style are mostly the sounds of the 80's and early Chicago house tracks from guys such as Marshall Jefferson, Steve Silk Hurley, Ralphie Rosario, and Frankie Knuckles.

What do you feel separates you from the rest, in a city filled with people trying to establish themselves in the Music Industry?

I'm consistently trying to stay up with music, I play a great venue. I have a great radio mix show on the #1 station in the country (WKTU) and fortunate enough to have successful parties. It's all about Visibility.

In which direction do you plan to take your DJ career in the future?

Well as far as direction, music has come down in Tempo and is reverting back to more tribal and bassline driven tracks. Tribal has always been the heart and soul of dance music here.

What, if anything, would you like to change about the NYC nightlife scene?

I would like to see there be more open minded musically and except and respect all genres of dances music.

Thank you for taking the time to share some information with our users.

No problem, It has been a pleasure.
