Don't valet at Virgo 64 It's a Thursday night and me and two friends head out to Brooklyn's Virgo 64, a tiny bar/lounge located in Bay Ridge. We pull up behind about 10 double parked cars. Hand over the keys to the valet and proceed to go inside the club. At the door there is a girl with a leopard hat picking people off the line, keep in mind were not in Manhattan this is Brooklyn. The line had only about 9 people on it. We move to the front of the line and the bouncer checks our ID's and says "twenty dollar cover." I said to the bouncer "how much??" just to make sure I heard him correctly since the last time it was only $10 and that was a weekend. He says "twenty dollars to get in." After realizing "yes we did just pay twenty dollars to get into a Brooklyn bar on a Thursday" we proceed inside. The place is very small but has a nice lounge area in the back. It's not as crowded as a Friday, but this is good for Virgo the less people the better. I decide to ask around what other people paid at the door. I got many different responses. All the girls I asked paid nothing. Some guys I spoke to paid $10 some paid $20, one person I spoke to said they heard sometimes they charge $25. I had to get to the bottom of this. On our way out I decided to ask the doorperson, Michele, what the regular cover was. She said "twenty dollars." Then I asked "why was last time $10" She said "it's always different… depending on how many guys are inside and stuff, that's how we decide." This is not a very accurate method. This place has to come up with another pricing method. Maybe they should have a guest list, $10 with $20 without. This will piss less people off, and give the girl at the door something to do besides picking people of a line for a Brooklyn bar. After talking to the doorstaff we happen to notice our car is in the same spot where we left it, running with the keys in it. Not to mention a $55 ticket on the windshield. The valet had our car double parked and running for over 45 minutes. The 10 cars in front of us all had tickets. When we brought this up to the club they said "we are not responsible talk to the valet." Talking to the valet guy was like talking to a piece of wood. I asked a cop nearby and he said "well…now you know not to valet at this place." My opinion if you are planning on going to Virgo 64 don't valet, and if you don't plan on spending $20 to get into a Brooklyn bar, don't go to Virgo 64 at all. VIRGO 64, 3RD AVENUE, BROOKLYN, NY. |
